Google Cheat Sheet
From Traci Avet's column, "Who's Afraid of Google?" (LJ, June 1, 2006), comes a list of handy shortcuts for searching Google. For a complete list that's updated frequently, go to http://www.googleguide.com (this is not a Google web site, but that of Nancy Blachman and Jerry Peek).Among other things, the shortcuts provide a way to:
- find a definition -- define exigency
- calculate -- 15.99 + 32.50 + 13.25
- convert -- 38 Celcius in Fahrenheit; 35 dollars in euros
- search just one site -- site:http://bloomu.edu "institutional review board"
- search within a date range -- leaf-cutting bees 1880..1978
- search for synonyms -- ~food ~facts
- get local weather info -- weather 17815
- get a stock quote -- stocks:goog
- find a book -- book northanger abbey
- find a book in a libray -- find in a library: moby dick
This is by no means a comprehensive list.
